tumbling tumbleweeds
Been mulling over a blog post about some ultimately non-developments in the work arena I’ve been keeping mum for obvious reasons, compounded by some not surprising but still somehow jarring feedback I received (there was a lot of positive feedback, too) that’s made me rethink the way I’ve embraced the hummingbird approach to a creative life (whereas maybe my approach to things I’m less passionate about is more of a tumbleweed? there may be a country song or two about this…) and recall an experience I had as a kid pretending to be asleep only to miss out on dessert. Sounds good, right? In the meantime, here are a few links to tide you over for the next week or two:
The family and I went to Iceland, a dreamy bucket list trip that I wrote about here.
While in Iceland, I rewatched the Olafur Eliasson episode of Abstract: The Art of Design. It was so cool to watch that episode again after visiting the Harpa concert hall in Reykjavik and the South Coast of Iceland (namely Skógafoss waterfall, Sólheimajökull glacier, and Reynisfjara black sand beach, all of which have inspired Eliasson’s work). I really dig his work.
We also finished Sweet Tooth during that trip. After a disappointing second season, I really enjoyed this third and final season, especially the ending.
Am I your b-list friend (or relative)?
This week’s walk find—a copy of “Needleplay”—sent me down the Erica Wilson—described here as the Julia Child of needlework—rabbit hole, including YouTube videos of her 1970s PBS show “Erica.” From the article, “her best-known kits include a series based on the Unicorn Tapestries in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.” You can buy kits, including vintage ones, here. I want the unicorn one, of course, and also the kitty.
This isn’t a new concept, apparently, but I recently learned about the midlife gap year. Why didn’t my gap year(s) go viral? And how can I give it another go??
Finally, it’s been a little over a month already since the high school MTB season wrapped up but I finally got around to editing my video recap of the champs course. I’ve only been on my bike twice since, but starting next week aim to get back to 2-3 rides a week. Stay tuned for some fun away ride videos!
I’ll leave you with this slomo video of me jumping on a little trampoline in a playground on the Westman Islands off the coast of mainland Iceland.
